The issue of rolling blackouts is expected to affect nearly every resident of Okmulgee County during the extreme cold weather period.
Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), along with rural electric cooperatives are working with the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) to reduce the electricity grid load.
According to PSO representatives, the outages are expected to be around two hours for some of the customers.
Prior to the start of the outage, PSO said plans call for customers to be notified through an automated phone messaging system.
The cold weather is also affecting some of the PSO transmission lines and some outages could be occurring that are not related to the emergency load reduction plan. Those outages could result in some customers experiencing longer than usual wait times for service to be restored.
