The weather is the biggest holdup for QuikTrip getting their new store in Henryetta under construction.
QuikTrip real estate manager Jake Barron told Henryetta council members he and the company are, “super excited” to locate here.
environment“QuikTrip has acquired all the property necessary to build the travel center,” he said. “Once the abatement is over, we will start the demolition process.”
One holdup will be the time it takes Oklahoma Natural Gas to relocate a high pressure gas line. “ONG has staged all their equipment but they are behind on their projects.”
He told the council it will be a 50-week construction time for the new store to be built once all the other preparation is completed.
He praised mayor Jennifer Mulholland for her work getting the project to this point. “It is because of her continued efforts and persistence. She has taken the bull by the horns and I don’t think we would be here if not for her.
In November, company officials were preparing to, “pull the plug” on the site but Mulholland, Senator Roger Thompson, Gov. Stitt and the secretary of transportation were instrumental in making it happen. “It was incredible the amount of energy we were able to create.”
When finished, the travel center will provide fuel and food for travelers along US 75 and I-40.
“The store is going to have diesel service for big trucks. It will not be designed for overnight stays. We can’t wait for everyone to shop our stores and try out food,” he added.
Barron was speaking to the council over the phone even though he was slated to be at the meeting in person. Weather conditions kept him in Tulsa.
He said he plans to be at the March meeting and provide the council with a site plan as well as artist renderings of the new store.
