LaVera Averett Jones, a former long-time resident of Henryetta, died Jan. 3, 2015 in Broken Bow where she resided.
She was born Nov. 17, 1918 to Zora Neiman and Alva T. Averett. The youngest of four children, LaVera moved to Henryetta at age five. She graduated from Henryetta High School, East Central College, and Oklahoma A&M.
During a long career in education she taught in Bryant, Wilson, Dewar, and Henryetta. In 1961, she married E.A. (Austin) Jones and relocated to Arkansas where she continued to teach until they returned to Henryetta.
She was baptized into the Christian faith in the Baptist church where she taught Sunday School.
LaVera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother James Averett, her sisters Margaret Warram and Mabel Buzan, niece, Delores Pfleiderer, nephew, Kenneth Averett.
She is survived by a nephew, Darrell Buzan and his wife Sharon of Idabel niece Pat Buzan Chancey and husband Mike of McKinney, Tex.; niece Susan Warram Chapman and husband Gary of Hot Springs, Ark.; 13 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday evening at Integrity Funeral Service.
A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015 at Westlawn Cemetery with Rev. Jack Vance, officiating. Services are under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
