Former State Representative Jerry Shoemake died July 3, 2022 at the age of 79. A lifelong Morris resident, he was born April 1, 1943 at the family home in Morris to the late Luther Preston and Mavis Gill (Harbison) Shoemake. Jerry married Lynda Sherian Mills Aug. 5, 1977 in Ada.
Jerry was raised on the family dairy and spent his life farming and ranching. He began serving in the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2005, faithfully serving District 16 until 2016. He was a member of the Okmulgee County Fair Board, Rural Water District 20 Board of Directors, Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors, Tulsa State Fair Horse Division Superintendent, Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee, OSU-Okmulgee Rodeo Team Advisory Committee, Conners State College Advisory Committee, Oklahoma Fairs and Festivals Association Board of Directors, Morris Lions Club, Okmulgee County Cattlemen’s Association, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and the Oklahoma Amateur Quarter Horse Association.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Shoemake.
Survivors include his wife Lynda Shoemake; a brother, Max Shoemake and wife Phyllis; sister-in-law, Nancy Shoemake; niece, Kristy Huckabee and husband Willie; nephews: Kevin Shoemake and wife Nancy, Steven Shoemake and wife Kristie and Stuart Shoemake and wife Trisha; seven great nephews; two great nieces; six great great nephews; one great great niece and a host of in-laws and outlaws.
Friends may visit the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Friday, July 8, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m..
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Morris. A reception will follow.
Memorial contributions in Jerry’s memory may be made to the Oklahoma State University Foundation (please specify the Equine Department).
Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
