July 29 is the last day to apply for voter registration to be eligible to vote in the August 23, 2022, state, federal, and county runoff primary election, Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes said today.
“Persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.” She said
Applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than July 29, 2022. Any application postmarked after that time will be accepted but will not be processed until after the August 23, 2022, election. Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the submission deadline.
“Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Some may receive a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application was not approved.”
Carnes said those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should immediately contact the County Election Board office. Applicants can fill out an application using the OK Voter Portal's voter registration "wizard." The registration "wizard" makes it easy for voters to complete the application, then print, sign, and mail it to their County Election Board. Voter Registration Applications can also be downloaded from the State Election Board website and are available at all county election boards, most tag agencies, post offices, and libraries.
Voters can also check their voter registration status using the OK Voter Portal. If you have not voted in the last eight years, call the County Election Board to check your voter registration status.
She reminded voters that applications must be approved by the County Election Board Secretary to vote. “Registered voters who have moved to Okmulgee County from a different county or state will need to complete a new Voter Registration Application to be eligible for elections in Okmulgee County.”
Anyone who has moved within the county and need to update their address may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.
The Okmulgee County Election Board is located at 314 W. 7th Street, Room 102, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
