Some new faces as well as some familiar ones will be at Henryetta schools when classes resume next month.
The school board approved a dozen hires at their meeting Monday evening and accepted resignations from four others.
Hired by the board following a lengthy executive session were:
Johnny Fairres and Joey Cantrell,Security Guards; Tammy Gates, long term substitute; Kira Hardgrave, High School Counselor; Kathy Bailey; elementary Dean of Students; Kasey Smith; kindergarten teacher; Jessi McCall, third grade teacher; Carlie Wheeler, third grade teacher; Jenny Huckabay; elementary Director of Counseling Services; Faith Mckinney; elementary paraprofessional; Butch Glover, elementary Physical Education aide and Kenny Paxton, full time Maintenance/Custodian.
Resignations were accepted from August Ross, Kristen Rempe, Chris Ashby and Dutch Van Den Born.
In other personnel action, the board approved Justin Been as adjunct teacher for drama and communications classes and Ryan Swallow for four classes of health and financial literacy.
The board also approved consulting agreements with Jamie Brison and Pam Boatright for the coming year.
Some 90 football helmets and 70 shoulder pads were declared surplus and made available for sale. Superintendent Dwayne Noble said the equipment did not meet the safety standards required today. Also declared surplus were two hammer strength jammers, two hammer strength neck machines, a hip sled and one hammer strength deadlift.
New high school principal Jeremy Strickland told board members there will be a “Back to School Bash,” August 7. Set to start at 6 p.m., the Bash is sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and will start with a district-wide prayer walk around the buildings. Students and anyone else participating will return to the high school where Strickland said there will be, “food, fellowship, games and bounce houses. It’s a great way to kick off the new school year.”
He also gave thanks to the HHS class of 1970 for the $1,000 donation to paint and restore the bathrooms at the high school. That work has included new ceiling tiles, paint, changing station and Knight decals for the walls.
Middle school principal Jayme Matlock announced Aundrea Lee will be moving to the middle school as a math teacher and will be helping with girls softball.
Superintendent Dwayne Noble presented the board with a proposed policy covering concussion and head injuries. “We will be talking about these in August as we get close to the start of football season,” he said.
He also invited board members to stop by the site of the former board office that has been demolished earlier this month. “It is going to be a teachers parking lot.”
