Two home runs made the first game of the year especially exciting for Henryetta softball fans Monday night.
The Lady Knights manhandled Checotah for a 9-0 shutout win that saw Henryetta post seven hits and eight RBIS. Junior Shelby Kilhoffer led the attack from the circle throwing a no hitter, striking out eight and allowing only two walks.
Serenity Rex and Kilhoffer were the long ball hitters of the game. Rex put her hit over the centerfield in the second inning then Killhoffer went yard in the fourth.
Sacrifice ground outs by Rex and Allan Hicks provided the first two runs for the Lady Knights in the first inning.
The Lady Knights scored a pair of runs by Sutv Harjo and Skylar Morris in the second inning then Rex unleashed her bat for the home run that scored McKayla Greenhaw and Kilhoffer.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kinley Miller doubled to right then got in scoring position at third on a wild pitch. She came home courtesy of Killhoffer who nailed the top of the scoreboard for her home run.
As in earlier frames, the Lady Kaymakers went three up, three down in the top of the fifth that closed out the game.
A game with Preston scheduled that same night had to be cancelled due to thunderstorms.
"We played well as a team," said coach Ryan Swallow. "Our freshmen stepped up and did what was necessary."
