Usually the Living Legends rodeo arena at Nichols Park is filled with horses and cattle.
doneyThis Saturday and Sunday it is going to be the scene for something different and unique to Henryetta.
For two days, Saturday and Sunday the inaugural Henryetta Mule and Donkey Days will be held. According to organizer Sandy Warshaw, this is the only event of the kind in Oklahoma and will be entertaining for all ages.
She said there will be a number of events including mule jump, halter, walk and trot as well as even events for the kids.
“The first seven and under youngsters to register can participate in our stick mules and donkey races,” she said. A special wacky boot race will be held to include children from eight to ten years of age.
Warshaw said the two day event will start off with a parade down Main Street at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Actual events will start at 11 each morning.
There will be over $6,000 in prize money awarded as well as buckles and ribbons.
Entertainment will include John Payne, known as “The One Arm Bandit.”
Payne is from Shidler and gets his name from the fact he lost an arm in an electrical accident when he was 20.
Despite the injury, he has a specialty horseback act that Warshaw said will delight all ages.
