Two Henryetta city council seats will be up for election April 4.
At the Tuesday night council meeting, the April election date was set with filing for the ward 1 and ward 2 seats to open at 8 a.m. Feb. 6 and close at 5 p.m. Feb. 8. Those seats are currently held by Shannon Scott and Christy Jeffcoat.
Candidates must live in that ward for at lease six months prior to the filing date. Those posts are a four year term and will expire in 2027. Jeffcoat and Scott were first elected to the council seats in 2015.
Council members received a bit of good news with the annual financial audit report released Tuesday night.
The report from Arledge and Associates showed the city’s total net position increased by $414,826 in the past fiscal year and the city assets exceeded liabilities by $6,535,725.
Council members approved Tristan Demmitt to use the civic center Dec. 22 for a city-wide free Christmas dinner. That dinner is free to the public and has been part of the community for several years.
The civic center was set aside for the Chamber of Commerce annual banquet Feb. 20 and again Nov. 4 for Tranpas and Sherry Parker for the ARHMA awards dinner. Rental and deposit fees were waived for each of those activities.
The Parkers were also given permission to use Nichols Park Nov. 3 and 4 for their vintage motorcycle racing event.
The city is applying for a grant from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to repair dams at both Nichols and Jim Hall lakes.
Rezoning ordinances were changed for two properties located on the northeast side of town. The first at 413 East Tutt would allow a doublewide home to be placed on the lot. The second would allow multi-family building to be placed at Farnham and Downing Streets.
Four right of way easements surrounding QuikTrip were also vacated. Those easements dated in the early 1970s and as far back as 1961.
Council members approved an ad purchase in the annual Focus magazine to be produced next year.
