nyone thinking about filing for city council offices in Henryetta, Beggs, Dewar and Morris have a few more days to make up their minds.
The filing period for those offices opens Feb. 6 and closes Feb. 8.
County election board secretary Ashley Carnes said her office will receive those Declaration of Candidacy forms starting at 8 a.m. each morning and ending at 5 p.m. "All declaration forms must be completed and notarized by a public notary in order for them to be accepted," she said.
Any contests of candidates can only be submitted by another candidate for that office and must be filed by Feb. 10 with her office in the county courthouse.
In Henryetta, the Ward 1 and Ward 2 council seats are up for grabs. Currently they are held by Shannon Scott and Christy Jeffcoat.
Other offices that will be open include:
Beggs: city clerk, city treasurer, Ward 2, Ward 3 and Ward 4 council. The Ward 3 spot is a two-year unexpired term;
Morris: mayor and wards 1 and 2 council seats;
Dewar: Board of Trustee offices 1 and 3.
Carnes said each candidate must be qualified by being a resident and registered voter within the municipality and of the ward if an office is from a ward for at least six months prior to filing a declaration of candidacy. The municipal offices will be filled in the nonpartisan Statutory Municipal General Election scheduled for April 4, 2023, if more than one candidate files for an office.
