Replacing 60 year old seats in the Alice Ghostley auditorium and hiring principals were high on the agenda for the Henryetta school board this week.
Board members heard from Travis Thompson on a request to upgrade the auditorium, especially in light of recent successful musical and theatre performances.
He pointed out the metal seats were placed in the auditorium when the school was originally built in 1964 and many are broken or in poor condition.
Superintendent Dewayne Noble said an estimated $300,000 would be required to replace the seating as well as perform other upgrades.
In recent years several grants and donations have been used to improve the lighting and sound equipment at the facility.
After the meeting Noble said there are plans to introduce a school board issue in another year that would include the auditorium. No details have been given on that bond proposal.
Board members accepted the resignation of Michael Hardgrave as school transportation director.
At the same time, the board approved keeping the existing principals in position for the coming year.
Rehired were Jeremy Strickland as high school principal, Jayme Matlock in the middle school, Roger Williams and Kathy Bailey as assistant elementary principal.
Ten staff members at the board of education were also rehired following an executive session.
They include: Rick Enis, part-time federal program director; Tammie Fairres business manager and assistant treasurer; Johnny Fairres and Joey Cantrell security officers; Kelly Furer, federal programs; Sallee Hedrick, child nutrition director; Harold Fox, maintenance director; Cynthia Layman, activity clerk; Bertha McGowan, clerical and Tammy Smith, encumbrance clerk.
A request to name the Henryetta baseball and wrestling facilities was put on hold with board members to review the school policy regarding such action.
The board will hold a special meeting next week to receive proposals for new security camera upgrades around the property. Four companies will be won hand to present those proposals.
