Wilbert James Gresham was an infantryman serving with the 9th Infantry Division in Long A Province, South Vietnam when he died in a firefight. Long A Province is located in the Mekong Delta region in the southern part of Vietnam.
Gresham was born May 23, 1946 and died March 8, 1967, just more than two months shy of his 21st birthday.
Sp4 Gresham is going to be honored Friday with a section of US 266 dedicated to him.
The dedication ceremony was initiated by members of Henryetta's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 539. A request was made to State Senator Roger Thompson who wrote the resolution that was unanimously passed by the Senate last year.
Since then two signs were constructed with one placed just west of the Hoffman road intersection and the other some two miles east of that intersection.
Sp4 Freshman is buried in the Hawkins Cemetery near Hoffman.
"We will be meeting by the sign near the Hoffman intersection for a special dedication ceremony," said VFW post spokesman Bill Goodner.
"Senator Thompson will be the guest speaker and we invite everyone to be a part of this dedication."
