Don J. Grant, a former Henryetta resident, died Jan. 8, 2015 at The Villages of Southern Hills in Tulsa at the age of 90.
He was born Dec. 8, 1924 in Washington, PA, the son of Lewis Frederick Grant and Rita Zoe Jacqmain.  They moved to Henryetta in 1929 to join Rita's father in the establishment and operation of the Pittsburg Plate Glass plant. Henryetta was where Don and Lewis O. Grant, Don's older brother, grew up, attended high school, and joined the military in WWII.  Don met his wife of 70 years, Leatrice Joyce Miller, from Okmulgee.  They married July 31, 1944.  Don served in the Army Air Corps from September 1943 until March 1946.
His son, James Edward Grant, and daughter, Dawna Joyce Grant, were born in Henryetta in 1946 and 1947, respectively.  Don is survived by his two children, his wife Joyce, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Don was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Tulsa and Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Tulsa.  He served those congregations in a number of capacities.
Tulsa became the family's home in 1946 where he lived until his death.  They also lived part time at Grand Lake (Grove, OK) and Green Valley, Ariz.  Don attended Oklahoma School of Accounting, Law and Finance and worked in independent insurance brokerage starting originally with Alexander & Alexander.  He later established his own agency, Grant & Company, which he retained ownership of until 1972 when it was sold to Fred S. James & Co., a national insurance brokerage firm.  He was President and Chairman of Fred S. James, Oklahoma for six years.
He is Past President of the Oklahoma Independent Insurance Agents and a past member of the Oklahoma State Insurance Association and National Association of Independent Insurance Agents.
In 1983 he left The James Companies and reformed his old agency selling it to partners in 1984.  He retired shortly afterwards having served his clients for over 42 years.
Don was active in local scouting for over 60 years having earned his Eagle in Henryetta in 1939, Order of the Arrow in 1942, and the Silver Beaver in 1966 for his volunteer service.  He was the scout master of three Boy Scout troops (5, 76, and 134), and advisor to Explorer Post 76.  He took eight troops to the National Jamboree in Colorado Springs in 1960.
Private graveside services for family only will be held at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery in Henryetta.
