third-place-trophy
One new trophy was added to the Henryetta display case Saturday but it was not the one the HHS teams had their hearts set on.
The Henryetta Knights battled to a close 56-53 win over Metro Christian in the third place bracket at the Henryetta Invitational tournament.
Henryetta had a slender 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter but found that lead under attack in the second quarter. At the half, the score was tied 24-24 then Metro Christian pushed it to a 32-26 lead aided by a pair of three point goals and a two-pointer within the first couple of minutes of the third period.
The Knights would regain their composure and use a two-point goal by Riley Berry at the buzzer to break a 38-38 tie at the buzzer to close out the period with a 40-38 lead. Berry would eventually close out the night with 15 points.
In the fourth quarter, a three-point goal by Brannon Murphy with 90 seconds left helped propel the Knights to the win.

He missed the first then connected on the second for the final score. A throw by Metro at the buzzer went wide giving the Knights third place.

Turnovers and missed free throws spelled the difference for the Lady Knights in their consolation game against Okmulgee at the Henryetta Invitational Tournament.
The lady Knights came out on the wrong end of a 47-31 score Friday afternoon to start the final day of the five-day competition.
Henryetta had 25 chances to pick up points from the free throw line during the contest but only managed to connect on nine of them.
For a short time in the first quarter, it appeared as though Henryetta would be in the contest with the Lady Bulldogs with Mykaela Wallace scoring the first goal of what would be an eventual nine points for Henryetta. Okmulgee hit five field goals for ten points but started pulling away in the next three frames.
Kamerie Wallace and Addison Ellis led the Henryetta scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively but even Wallace ran into brought. She went to the free throw line eight times in the third quarter but could only connect on two of them. That same period saw Ellis hit two of three free throws and Mykaela Wallace sink one of four. She would eventually have to settle for five points during the evening. Hanna Gouge was also unable to zero in on the basket scoring two field goals and two of two times from the free throw line.
