2016 2005 sales tax
This graph shows the total sales tax returns for each of the calendar years from 2005 through 2016.

For the third consecutive month, Henryetta has taken a hit on sales tax revenue.
The May sales tax check to the town amounted to $222,745.16, a drop of $13,557 from a year ago. It also marked the third straight that sales tax revenues were lower than the previous year. That amounts to $62,300  in revenue lost to the town for the current fiscal year that started July 1.
A look back over the past 12 years from 2005 through 2016 reveals the city has recorded less than half a million dollars in sales tax growth. The city has received an average of $2,461,333 in sales tax collections each year. The 2016 total of $2,628,228 was the highest but it was just slightly below the previous high of $2,531,168 set back in 2008.
Mayor Jennifer Clason said the decline so far this year is partially attributed to the loss of construction crews that stayed in the Henryetta area for the past couple of years. There were several hundred people involved in construction on Interstate 40 and US 75 between Henryetta and Okmulgee. “They spent money for groceries and other items while they were here and that added up.”
Henryetta was not the only government seeing a drop in sales tax monies.
Okmulgee reported a dip of $26,000 for the May return, receiving $502,119 compared to $528,220 a year ago.
The Okmulgee County share of sales taxes was also down to $293,712 from the $312,744 received last May.
Statewide, $146,163,726 was returned. That was an increase of $7,979,671 from the $138,184,055 distributed to the cities and towns in May last year.
