Evelyn Brown, a longtime resident of the Dewar-Bartlett area, died June 2, 2018 in Tulsa at the age of 79. She was born Aug. 12, 1938 in Clinton, Ark., to Chester Tarkington and Tennie Pauline (Davis) Tarkington.
Evelyn married William "Bill" Brown March 12, 1953 in Heber Springs, Ark., and to this union three children were born, Vicky, Billy, and Rusty. She was a member of Dewar First Baptist Church for many years. Evelyn worked for 38 years at Dewar Schools in the cafeteria, as school librarian, and also as elementary school secretary. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ricky D. Tarkington, Sr., and a sister-in-law, Ruth Tarkington.
She is survived by three children: Vicky Tiger and husband Tony of Tiger Mountain, Billy Brown and wife Angela of Eufaula and Rusty Brown and wife Shari of Dewar; 11 grandchildren: William Brown, Zachary Tiger and wife Katurah, Dr. Kyle Brown and wife Meghan, Dr. Sarah Mulliniks and husband Dusty, Michael Brown, Brittony Tiger, Ashley Howard, James Tyler Howard and wife Mikaelah, Willie Brown, Tiffany Tiger, and Kimberly Howard; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Venson Tarkington of Denison, Tex.; also by a host of friends, her "Dewar kids" and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be, Ricky D. Tarkington, Jr., Jeff Tarkington, Daniel Tarkington, Jordan Tarkington, Zachary Tiger, and Dr. Kyle Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Brown, Willie Brown, James Tyler Howard, and William Brown.
Viewing for Evelyn will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Dewar First Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Tiger and Rev. Ryan Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Lackey Cemetery in Hitchita under direction and care of Integrity Funeral Service.
