When an emergency happens, the last thing a person wants is fire, police or EMS to have problems finding the correct address.
That problem is being corrected thanks to a new product being sold from Henryetta.
The Locator was showcased at a ribbon cutting event on South Fourth.
Even though the product looks like a simple light bulb, it has the potential to save hundreds of lives every year.
Jonathan Harrison is the spokesman for the company. He has been an emergency services worker for a number of years, and has seen instances where emergency personnel have problems finding the scene of an emergency.
He joined with some friends and acquaintances to develop a computerized bulb that will identify where an emergency is.
Designed to be installed on the front porch, the bulb is controlled through the wifi at a home and, when activated by a 911 call, starts flashing red, white and blue.
He explained the project has been in development for five years with several friends helping.
“A lot of people think GPS works all the time,” he said. “That’s a misconception.”
He illustrated it by saying GPS on a computer shows his home located near half a mile from the actual house.

It is a 10 watt LED bulb that is the equivalent of a 100 watt incandescent bulb and will last some nine years.
Harrison explained setting up the bulb is as simple as putting it in the porch light receptacle then using a smartphone app to connect it.
“Once the bulb is connected, a person needs to leave the light switch on and turn the bulb on and off through the smartphone,” he said. “If the bulb loses power, it loses connectivity with the wifi source.
Just because the home wifi is involved, that doesn’t mean the device is restricted to only within the range of the wifi signal.
“You can connect it through your cellular account. No matter where you are, as long as you have cell service, you can set it off.”
Once the Locator account is set up, Harrison urged everyone to share the username and password with other family members so they have access to the service.
Currently the Locator bulbs are only being sold through the company website, www.thelocator911.com.
There is a Facebook page as well that has more information about it.
