The annual Henryetta Christmas parade and Santa Bucks drawing has fallen victim to COVID-19.
Tuesday morning Henryetta chamber of commerce executive director Roy Madden said the decision was reached to cancel both events that were scheduled this Saturday.
“Throughout the year we have hosted all of our programmed events in an attempt to provide a level of normalcy to our community; however, with the continued impact of the COVID-19 virus on our volunteers, their families, and the community we’ve decided the most prudent option is to cancel the events,” he said.
The parade was originally set for 11 a.m. Saturday followed by the Santa bucks drawing and vest with Santa.
“It wouldn’t be right to do just a part of the event so we are just going to cancel it all in order to protect area families this year,” Madden added. “Hopefully, the impact of the virus will be diluted in the coming months and we will all be able to get back to the what we considered normal activities.”
