The Lady Knights stormed into Haskell Thursday and blew away the competition as they won five consecutive games to capture first place.
They mauled Checotah 6-0, run-ruled Sapulpa 15-1, smashed Owasso 12-4, took an early lead to win 7-3 over Haskell then broke a tie to win 3-2 in the championship round.
“Our girls played hard,” said coach Ryan Swallow. “The hitting was strong and we didn’t make the mistakes that the other teams did.”
During the day, Henryetta dominated the batter’s box with 13 home runs. Five of those came from veteran Lady Knight Avery Miller with sophomore Shelby Kilhoffer parking five of her own. Jaylynn Joslin had two and Kinley Miller added one to the Henryetta total.
Opening up the day was the shutout against Checotah.
That saw Joslin get her home run in the third inning. All told, Henryetta picked off 15 hits from the Checotah pitcher.
Katelyn Dwiggins was on the rubber for the Lady Knights. She pitched seven innings giving up six hits with no runs scored.
A monster seven-run fourth inning put the icing on the run-rule cake against Sapulpa.
It was home run time for the Lady Knights. Avery Miller parked the ball in the first, nailed a grand slam in the second and a solo homer in the fourth inning. Shelby Kilhoffer added her solo home run in the second.
Adding to the run totals were Joslin and Dwiggins with three each, Kilhoffer with two, Skylar Morris, Kinley Miller, McKayla Greenhaw and Maddie Byroads with one each.
The Lady Rams from Owasso were the next victims of the Henryetta girls as they shot past them for a 12-4 win.
Kilhoffer drove in four of those runs on two hits with home runs in the first and sixth innings. Joslin had her own homer in the sixth.
During the attack, Henryetta had 21 hits while Dwiggins only allowed Owasso to get 10. The Lady Rams did get a two-run home run in the fifth. The other two runs came in the top of the seventh but it was too late to matter.
It was home run time for the Lady Knights when they faced the Haskell Lady Haymakers in the semi-finals.
Kilhoffer had two fo the four including a four-bagger in the first and third innings Miller nailed a solo in the fifth and sister Kinley Miller went deep in the sixth.
The only runs from Haskell came in the fifth when a home run cleared two other bases.
In the finals with Holdenville, Avery Miller supplied the winning solo homer that broke the 2-2 tie then the Lady Knight defense held tough for the championship.
Miller doubled in the third driving in Maddie Byroads to put the Lady Knights on the board. They added another run when Brooklyn Baughman scored on an error in the top of the fourth.
Holdenville came back in the bottom of the fourth with a line drive RBI for one run. A Holdenville home run in the next frame tied up the score.
That put the pressure on Henryetta until the seventh when Miller slammed a drive to left field for her game winning home run.
