After a powerful start, the Henryetta Lady Knights are holding down third place in the 4A rankings.
Until a trip to Broken Arrow Tuesday night, the HHS slow-pitch team was undefeated. They took a 25-18 loss to Broken Arrow and 21-9 loss to Jenks. Broken Arrow is ranked third in the state 6A list and Jenks is sixth in 6A.
The Monday rain caused cancellation of a scheduled two-way with Kiefer and Kellyville at the Ponies’ field.
Coach Ryan Swallow had to call off the Tuesday game here with Eufaula and Beggs so he arranged the Broken arrow games that were played on artificial turf.
In the opening game with Broken Arrow, the Lady Knights stood their ground for the first two innings.
Henryetta scored four runs in the first with RBI hits by Shelby Kilhoffer and Brooklyn Baughman.
Broken Arrow had a two-run homer then followed that up with an RBI single and back to back doubles for a 6-4 lead.
In the second inning, Kassedi Gobin got an RBI single to score Katelyn Dwiggins.
That would be the last time until the fifth inning when Henryetta added seven runs on a bases loaded walk and for RBI hits.
By that time, Broken Arrow is up 17-12.
The final scores from Henryetta came with a a home run by Gobin and RBI hit by Makayla Greenhaw.
Broken Arrow added five runs in the sixth including a three-run homer.
Against Jenks, HHS junior Avery Miller opened the game and closed it with home runs.
In the first inning, she put the Lady Knights on the board with a three-run long ball.
She would later score along with Kilhoffer on a Kenley Miller double then Gobin would add a run on a sacrifice out in the third.
Her fourth inning homer brought in Dwiggins and Joslin.
Henryetta had nine runs with ten hits during the matchup.
The powerful Jenks Lady Trojans dominated with eight runs in the first four in the second and six in the third inning. They had 21 runs on 24 hits.
