Henryetta city officials are thinking stimulus check spending is responsible for the record-setting sales tax return posted this month.
The town received $325,083 for the monthly sales tax distribution from the state. That is the largest ever received by Henryetta and was $89,942 above the May 2020 check. It sets the stage for the town to break the $3 million mark in sales tax returns for the fiscal year that ends June 30 and would also be a record total. Last fiscal year the town received $2,850,193 in sales tax money.
That same increase in revenue was felt in most of the area towns.
Dewar $15,526, up from $13,023;
Okmulgee received $754,108, a gain of $208,950 from last year;
Okemah $127,206, up from $90,436;
Morris $29,806, a gain from $20,585;
Beggs $55,328, up from $41,908;
Checotah $451,722, up from $381,190.
The only community showing a decline was Weleetka receiving $18,040, a drop from $40,440 a year ago.
Statewide, $189,493,350 in sales tax collections were returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $43,326,853 from the $146,166,497 distributed to the cities and towns in April last year.
