water leak
Water service to Henryetta was shut off after workers at the QuikTrip site drilled into the main line feeding the town Monday morning.
The 12-inch line is due to be replaced and, according to public works director Ron Casey, the old line had been located prior to construction.
Without water, Henryetta schools had to dismiss classes early. Students whose parents were unable to pick them up were provided water through Okmulgee County Emergency Management then sent home on the bus at the normal time.
Fire chief David Bullard said water takers filled with non-potable water were placed at Walmart for residents to use with no charge.
Complicating the repairs was the loss of city workers due to COVID. Several employees were quarantined this past week after either contracting the virus or testing positive.
