Henryetta has officially been designated a “Purple Heart City.”
That designation was announced Tuesday to the Henryetta Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 539 and auxiliary members by mayor Jennifer Munholland.
Reading from the official proclamation, she pointed out the town has long appreciated the sacrifices made by men and women who have served in the military over the years. The Purple Heart was the first American service award or decoration made available to the common soldier and is specifically awarded to any member of the United States Armed Services wounded or killed in combat with a declared enemy of the United States.
