While many people in Henryetta were relaxing in front of the television for the OU-Texas game, five aspiring firemen were being put through their paces.
The five were undergoing a series of physical tests designed to see if they could meet the demands of the job. Those included a mile run, twice climbing up the 77-foot ladder in full bunker gear, one with oxygen tank and fast mask, carrying a dummy across the parking lot and handling a fire hose. All that after passing a series of written tests.
“We have an opening after fire captain Larry Hall retired the other day,” said fire chief David Bullard.
He explained the five hopefuls are already volunteer firemen so they are acquainted with the job requirements.
