Georgia Harjo, a lifelong resident of the Wilson community, died Oct. 16, 2021 in Henryetta at the age of 57. She was born May 14, 1964 to Monroe Burgess Sr. and Ester Burgess Brown. She graduated from Wilson High School and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She worked in the Wilson School system for 31 years and has been a lifelong member of Little Cussetah United Methodist Church.
She is survived by husband Nelson Scott Harjo Sr. of 39 years; two sons, Nelson Jr. and Julian, along with grandson Jaice; two brothers, Jan and Monroe Jr.; four sisters Tina Burgess, Melissa Bear, Mulsie Tecumseh, Karen King, and lifelong friend Gina Burgess; also a host of nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, at Integrity Funeral Service. Mrs. Harjo will be moved to Little Cussetah United Methodist Church at 4 p.m.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Little Cussetah United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers are all of her nephews and great nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Paulette Barnes, Glenda Williams, Andrea James, Yahv Williams, Joe Rose, Dwayne Chamberlain, Asa Mitchell, and Michael McKinney.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Wilson School Gymnasium with Rev. Judy Deere officiating, assisted by Rev. June Marshall. Interment will follow in Burgess Family Cemetery south of Little Cussetah United Methodist Church. Services are under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
