Yogi Berra once said, “It ain’t over till it’s over,” and that was most evident Sunday afternoon.
On the final hole of the two-day Henryetta Cup golf tournament, it appeared as though two teams would be splitting first place honors.
That’s when Dutch VanDenBorn, the elder member of the Seminole team, dropped in a birdie putt to give his team a half-point win, 202.5 against a 202 score by Henryetta.
The annual tournament is in honor of Jeff Lawrence and raises money to go toward scholarships and helping the high school golf teams.
Teams are split up with names of the championships that Lawrence, a state champion HHS golfer, won during his short career.
A total of 36 golfers braved the 100-degree heat for the weekend contest at the Henryetta golf and country club course.
Members of the winning team included Justin Been, Kyle Hefner, Nick Flanary, Jake Stamp, Kyle Allen, Janet Grammar, Jake Glass, Dutch VanDenBorn and David Warden.
Edged out of the first place honors was the Henryetta team of J.W. VanDenBorn, Wayne Robertson, Jackson Wallace, Brady Norman, Jack Hamm, Tim Hicks, Morgan Brown, Rusty Wallace and Billy Brown.
