City council members changed their minds Tuesday and will allow the Chamber of Commerce to hold a block party on Main Street this month.
In September the council was against shutting down Main Street from Fourth to Fifth streets for the Monster Mash Block Party Oct. 28.
After some discussion Tuesday night, the council agreed to shut down Main from Third to Sixth Streets for the event. It is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. and run until 10. There will be games, music, refreshments and activities for all ages.
One of the deciding factors was the announcement that several stores on Main would be open during the evening in an effort to attract customers.

The week before the Monster Mash, the Chamber will be hosting an outdoor movie on the stage south of the civic center. “The Haunted Mansion will be shown starting at dusk but, in the event of inclement weather, the council agreed to let the chamber use the civic center and waived deposit and rental fees.
Also approved was the use of the park and gazebo south of the civic center for the Henryetta Hallmark Christmas event Dec. 2.
Organizers Kelly Dobson, Valerie Mosco and Eric Randleman said there would be vendors, activities and even Santa Claus on hand that afternoon and evening. The council agreed to shut down Moor between Fourth and Fifth streets for the event.
A request by Aaron Sanders to use Nichols Park for geocaching was approved.
Geocaching is a form of entertainment for people using GPS devices to find items that are hidden in specific coordinates.
The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.
New fire chief Tyler Wieland has been appointed to the Henryetta planning and zoning board. He will be filling David Bullard’s unexpired term.
Council members also entered into an agreement with Myers Engineering for work on Nichols Park dam.
