Once again the Henryetta Education Foundation (HEF)is helping local students.
This week $13,271.96 in grant money has been awarded to 13 teachers to add educational material to their classrooms.
The money comes from donations to the Foundation and their annual fundraising efforts that included a drawing for a zero turn lawn mower as well as trimmer and leaf blower.
“It has been our honor to make this money available to teachers for the past 30 years,” said Foundation president James McCullough. “We know that there is never enough money available in education and through this program, students get an opportunity to have materials and programs that enrich their learning experience.”
Each year teachers submit an application to HEF that describes what their project is and how it will benefit the students. Those applications are sent to educators in a distant school system and graded with the top applications receiving funding.
This year the grants went to:
Autumn McCain, Okie Dokie Social Studies;
Andrea Spurlock, Power Play;
Darla Sanderson, Science and Life Skills;
Cheryl Gillin, Let’s Read;
Kim Taylor, Reading is Still Cool in Middle School;
Angela Glover, Ready to Read/ready to Succeed;
Malaya Hares, Blast Off Into Science;
Harlana Frye, We Excel With IXL;
Rusty Snyder, Algebra;
Kelly James, Learning Tables; Bryan Leader, Foundation of Hitting/Pitching; Jenny Huckabay and Julie Watson, Project Wellness Room, Healthy Teachers=Thriving Students;
Connie Adams-Brooks, Tech! Tech1 Technology!
