The Henryetta Knights like to keep their fans excited.
On the heels of a double overtime game with Hugo last week, the Knights pulled out a 59-51 victory over Eufaula Tuesday, going down to the wire in the final quarter.
There was no clear leader throughout that game with the Knights up by one, 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, trailing 24-27 at the half then tied at 38-all going into the final frame.
It was a back and forth matchup in those eight minutes with the two teams knotted at 48-48 with three minutes left courtesy of two free throws. A driving two point field goal by Nick Hudson broke the tie making it 50-48. Talon Weaver was fouled getting a rebound and made the second of two free throws for a 51-48 lead then the Ironheads scored a layup to get within one. That was followed by a Eufaula free throw try that was missed. Weaver would drive the length of the court and make the layup then got the free thrown when he was fouled.
Hudson missed the first of two from the free throw line then made the second shot then Weaver got the turnover and went back to the Henryetta goal for two with half a minute left.
The Ironheads would go back to the charity line sinking one of two to trail 51-57.
With 11 seconds left, Weaver was fouled again making what would be the final two points of the game. He finished up the night with a total of 31 points, a dozen of them in that fourth quarter. Hudson had 18 points followed by Skylar Greenhaw with five, Hunter Gavin three and Nathan Nail, two.
In the opening game the Lady Knights started strong but ran into trouble in the second half to lose 67-35.
Henryetta trailed 8-16 at the end of the first period then were able to contain the Lady Ironhards somewhat in the second allowing only allowing only 15 while scoring 14 for a 23-31 halftime total.
Eufaula charged back in the third period picking up 20 but Henryetta could only get five.
Mykayla Greenhaw and Gracie Lollis each had eight points on the night with Allie Davis seven, Zoe Boatright and Rachel Morris four each and Kassedi Lee two.
