2014 has started out on a positive note for the Henryetta bank account.
The city deposited a $349,272 check from the state for sales tax money. That was a gain of $58,801,47 from the past year and one of the largest single month increases in the past four years.
Those funds are primarily based on November sales by local businesses.
The city also received $55,382.19 in use tax money this month, the second largest single month collection since records were being kept.
That near record gain by the city was the largest of any increase reported by area communities.
Only Okmulgee came close, receiving $702,941 which amounted to a $21,881 increase over the previous year.
Dewar was the only community showing a decline. This month the town received $16,089,91 compared to $16,775.81 last January for a drop of $685.
Statewide, $205,027,061 in sales tax collections were returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $5,897,093 from the $199,129,968 distributed to them in January last year.
