In two weeks the Oklahoma legislative session starts and lawmakers have filed over 2,000 bills.
One of those, House bill 3992, hits especially close to Henryetta.
Also known as Knights Law, the bill calls for some sex offenders to serve 100 percent of their sentence.
Authored by State Rep. Scott Fetgatter, the bill gets its name from the petition initiated by Ashley Mann following the deaths of Rylee Allen, Tiffany Guess, Michael Mayo, Ivy Webster and Brittany Brewer last May.
The teens along with Holly McFadden were shot by Jesse McFadden at a home east of Henryetta.
The murderer who took his own life, was a convicted sex offender who was released from prison after spending only a portion of his sentence.
That law covers violations ranging from child abuse, human trafficking for anyone under 18 years of age to child pornography and allowing that to occur by a person responsible for a child’s health, safety or welfare.
Penalties include imprisonment up to life without parole.
It also eliminates credits toward early release by a convicted felon for first degree rape, child sexual abuse, child pornography, child prostitution or human trafficking of a minor.
If passed by the legislature and signed into law, it would be effective Nov. 1, 2024.
