Paul Alvis West was born June 24, 1923, in Atwood.  He died Oct. 30, 2015, at the age of 92.  He was the only son of Oma DeShields West and Trenton Alvis West.
e was raised in the Atwood Church of the Nazarene and sang southern gospel music in a quartet for many years.  He married Melba Lee Thompson June 11, 1943.  They were blessed with four daughters.  After graduating from high school at the age of 16, Paul became an entrepreneur raising chickens, dairy cattle and farming.  He moved his family to Okmulgee when he became manager of Gold Kist Peanut Company in 1960, a position he held for approximately 10 years.  At that time he began ranching and opened Paul’s Western Store, which he operated for 23 years.  He enjoyed “living his dream” when he began full-time ranching with Melba until the age of 88.  He was a faithful member of both the Okmulgee Nazarene Church and the Henryetta Nazarene Church during this time.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Melba, four daughters, LaTrishia (Bob) Sherry of Atwood, Gail (Dick) West of Henryetta, Paula (Bernie) Brown of Jenks and Shirley (Keith) Flanary of Morris, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons.  
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Rogers Funeral Home.  Services will be held at the Henryetta Church of the Nazarene at 10 a.m. Monday, November 2.  Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Atwood Cemetery in Atwood, under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home, followed by fellowship at the Atwood Church of the Nazarene.
