Nichols Park was filled with campers and echoed with the sounds of engines Saturday and Sunday as the Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association held a series of races.
The two-day affair included youngsters on quads and mini-bikes as well as the adults trying to show off their driving skills. The courses were set up through a wooded, hilly part of the park that was designed to test both machine and motorist.
A total of 301 riders were involved during the Saturday and Sunday races.
The racing series will continue through October with riders trying to accumulate enough points for first place wins.
According to mayor Jennifer Clason, the trails established by the OCCRA are now being designated as walking trails. "They have been cut down and cleared out that makes them perfect for people wanting to walk."
The trails amount to 5.8 miles in length.
