Over 100 union members from across Oklahoma answered the call by the Union Sportsmen Alliance to help work at Nichols Park Saturday.
The men and women cleared brush, reset rock and rewired one of the shelter houses during the day-long activities.
During the lunch break, Mayor Jennifer Clason presented the group with a proclamation declaring September 30 as "Union Day" in Henryetta. The proclamation recognized the work by the Alliance and praised them for giving, "the citizens of Henryetta and those who travel to the beautiful historic Nichols Park the revived pleasure of enjoing the outdoors and family and friends for years to come."
It was believed that the turnout was the largest group to participate in a single project in the Alliance history.
Added to the lake was a new floating dock anchored to one of the original sandstone outcroppings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the late 1930s.
Union members also removed the dilapidated wooden fishing dock next to the dam.
The only glitch for the day was the lack of materials to roof the shelter house. Those materials were ordered but had not arrived in time for construction. Union members said they would return to the park in a few weeks and install the rool.
