The HHS Knight Brigade band is also accepting donations for the Blue Star Mothers organization for their Freedom Boxes.
According to band director Alan Montgomery said people can donate food and drink items as well as toiletries.
Those items instant oatmeal, breakfast bars, pop tarts, ramen noodles, tuna packets, dried fruit, beef jerky, granola bars, crackers, trail mix, coffee, tea, shampoo, soap, baby wipes, unscented toilet paper, foot powder, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, lip balm, socks, AAA or AA batteries, pens, and hand warmers.
“The donations will be sent to the Tulsa Blue Star Mothers chapter, packaged and sent to our troops overseas,” said Montgomery.
The Blue Star Mothers organization was given a Congressional charter in 1942. It recognizes mothers who have sons and daughters serving in the military.
Since being organized, Blue Star Mothers were volunteers in hospitals ad even train stations during World War II. Since then they have been actively obtaining donations for service members overseas.
They are not to be confused with the American Gold Star Mothers who are recognized after losing a son or daughter in battle.
