Everett Alfred Crandell, a longtime resident of Henryetta, died Jan. 2 at the age of 86. He was born Jan. 21, 1931 in Wilson to Roy and Ruby (Hayden) Crandell. He married Betty Smock Jan. 10, 1950. He graduated from Henryetta High School in 1948. After a brief career in the glass industry and time spent ranching and trading, he followed his dream of competing as a rodeo cowboy.
That dream led him across the U.S. and his success earned him the title of 1966 All Around Cowboy and 1965 and 1966 Steer Wrestling World Champion.
He is survived by his wife Betty; his daughters, Marie Mason and Scarlet Crawford and husband Dusty; son Calvin Crandell and wife Rhonda; six grandchildren: Stacey Horton and husband Dale; Shane Crawford; Laura Russell and husband Brian; Dusti Lynn Stotler and husband Jim; Roy Travis Crandell; and Leta Crandell; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Tommy Crandell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and two infant daughters, also his friend and son-in-law John Mason.
Viewing will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday noon until 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until noon.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, January 8, 2018 at Dewar First Baptist Church with Pastor Brett Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie peters, Mike Bailey, Bud Keesee, Jim Qualls and Howard Edmundson.
