Each year the Henryetta Education Foundation provides thousands of dollars in scholarships, grants to teachers and special events for students.
ed foundation logoMuch of that money comes from one night a year when the 20-year-old foundation holds a dinner combined with raffles and auctions.
This year the dinner will be held March 10 at the HHS cafeteria. Doors open at 6 and the dinner starts at 6:30. Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased from First Family Federal Credit Union, American Exchange Bank, First National Bank, Burnett’s Furniture, Henryetta Dental Clinic or any Foundation member.
One of the highlights of the dinner is a raffle for a special grand prize. This year the Foundation, underwritten by American Exchange, is providing two tickets to the OKC Thunder basketball game March 23 along with an overnight stay at the Hampton Inn and dinner for two at Toby Keith’s restaurant.
Those tickets are being sold for $5 each or five for $20.
Tables loaded with donated merchandise will be sold during a special silent auction then there will be a number of items at the live auction that caps off the dinner.
“We are trying to reach as many kids as possible with each dollar, said Foundation member Dirk Palmer.
He explained the group has provided over $130,000 in scholarships and grants in the past six years alone. The Foundation also works with the Alumni Association on several scholarships.
Much of that money is in the form of grants to teachers to finance projects and materials in the classrooms.
The teachers make an application that is graded by an out-of-area group of educators. The top applications are funded as long as there is money available.
