This Saturday, Henryetta letter carriers will be picking up more than mail.
stampThe post office is accepting donations of food to help the Henryetta Church of Christ food pantry.
Last year the one-day effort brought in over 3,000 pounds of food that was used to help local residents.
For the past week, letter carriers have been dropping off bags for people to donate non-perishable foods. That includes canned soup, canned vegetables, canned meats and fish, pasta, peanut butter, rice or cereal.
The bags can be left in the mailboxes or brought to the Henryetta post office and placed in a specially-marked container in the lobby.
Since the first national Food Drive in 1993, the Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has collected more than 1.5 billion pounds of food; last year’s drive brought in a record 80 million pounds of food.
