The Cowboy Heritage pocket park on Main Street is darker now thanks to some vandals.broken bulbs
Until this past weekend, the park had been lit up with nearly a dozen strands of lights stretching nearly the entire width of the park.
Over the weekend vandals broke out a number of the light bulbs then, not content with that damage, returned to break out nearly all of them.
“It's a shame that some people find it necessary to vandalize property,” said chamber of commerce executive director Roy Madden. “We can replace the lights but that shouldn’t even have to be done. People need to be more respectful of the property of others.”
The park was completed about five years ago. It sits in the space that had been a burned-out gap along Main Street. Since completion, the park has played host to a number of venues ranging from a specialty concert to receptions. Each Christmas the park is lit up holiday style.
Madden said he has applied for a grant that will add more information signs to the park.
“If anyone has information about the people who did this damage, they should contact the police department. All information will remain confidential,” he said.
