taylor-better Ashtyn Taylor a Junior at Dewar High School has been elected as the 2015-2016 Vice President of Parliamentary Law for the Oklahoma Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
She is one of ten state officers elected to the State Executive Council during the 2015 State Convention, held April 2 in Oklahoma City. Being elected a state officer is the highest leadership honor in the state association that an FCCLA member can achieve.
The election took place during State Convention, the leadership event centered on the theme, “Leadership is Awesome!"
During the convention, more than 7,000 FCCLA members, advisers, alumni, and guests attended workshops and sessions on relevant youth issues such as career preparation, financial literacy, community service, and the changing roles of men and women in the home and workplace.
Along with the nine other members of the State Executive Council, Ashtyn will travel to the Oklahoma FCCLA headquarters in Stillwater during the year to attend training and program planning sessions.
This summer, Taylor and the rest of the State Executive Council will travel to Washington, D.C. to represent the state association at the 2015 National Leadership Conference. Throughout the year, she and the other state officers will represent the organization by leading workshops, planning and directing training camps and giving speeches locally and throughout the state to promote Family and Consumer Sciences.
“It is absolutely surreal to be elected to the State Executive Council." said Taylor. “I am so grateful for all my adviser, Andrea Brice, has done to help me achieve my goal. Without her or former Dewar FCCLA adviser, Mrs. Kathy Dunham, I would not be where I am today. I cannot wait to serve Oklahoma FCCLA and represent Dewar High School throughout the year!"
