The Okfuskee County town of Clearview is going to be part of a feature film series on the all-black towns in Oklahoma.
The series is produced by filmmaker Kari Barber who included Clearview along with four other of the state's historically all-black towns. The Clearview video will be shown this Saturday, June 6 at the Clearview community building. A special ribbon cutting and address by Dr. Donnie Nero will be held at 11 a.m. followed by a lunch. The film about Clearview will be shown at 1 p.m. The screening is free and open to the public.
The entire documentary is called, "Struggle and Hope." Barber said there were 13 historically black towns recognized in Oklahoma that were incorporated with local governments and post offices between 1900 and 1906.
Clearview was founded in 1903 and was originally called Lincoln. That name was changed within a short time after founding. In 1907, the town's population was said to be 618. Today around 50 people live there.
