interstate An Edmond construction company got the bid for $15.6 million worth of work on I-40 through the Henryetta area.
Duit Construction Co., has about a year to resurface the roadway and bridges on the interstate.
They received the nod from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation at a bid opening this week.
The project will start at the interstate exit west of town and continue east to the turnpike junction.
Part of the overall work will include elimination of the bridge that crosses the abandoned KO&G railroad line.
The work on the roadway and bridges is sorely needed. Late last week, a nearly three-foot wide hole opened up in the pavement on the bridge spanning Fourth Street. That is the second time in two years that particular area has seen the pavement collapse.
Still ahead for ODOT will be a bid opening next year for eight miles of Interstate-40 resurfacing starting at the McIntosh County line. That project is estimated to cost $14.75 million.
In July, a contract is expected to be awarded for bridge work between Henryetta and Okmulgee on US 75.
That project will take care of the bridges in a two-mile stretch that handle most of the water coming down the Deep Fork.
Engineers estimate the work will cost $21.8 million.
