Once again, Henryetta's Main Street was filled with cars as the Summer Cruise Knight drew out nearly 2,000 people Saturday. Watch the video of the burnout contest here.
Two blocks on Main were dedicated to some customized or vintage vehicles ranging from T-buckets to muscle cars, pickups to spiffed-up street rods. The Henryetta Church of the Nazarene was on hand to provide hotdogs and water to the visitors. American Exchange served up cotton candy for the youngsters. Earlier in the day, the Classic Diner was the place to be to enjoy hot dogs in a 50's style atmosphere complete with some of the golden oldies playing on the loudspeakers. The evening got off to a noisy (and smokey) start with the burnout contest.

Video of the Cruise Knight can be seen here. Held next to Jiffy mart, a half-dozen cars and trucks spun their tires and created billowing white smoke that all but obscured the entire corner. The contestants were trying to show their vehicle's power and many did as the engines strained before rear tires started flying apart then exploded to the delight of the crowds. When the smoke finally cleared, Daniel Lyons' 1978 pickup was deemed to have put on the best show and he received over $100 in cash plus tickets to the Crazy Snake Festival this weekend. Coming in second was Sidney Pilley and Duncan Casey won third. The end of that contest gave visitors an opportunity to get downtown and watch the parade of cars either dragging Main or parked along the street. Event organizer Staci Alsover said the turnout was great and promised to get another one organized later this year. Photos of the Main Street fun |
