Sammy Ray Harjo, a resident of Okmulgee, died Aug. 15, 2021 in Okmulgee at the age of 59. He was born April 17, 1962 in Claremore to Buddy Harjo Jr. and Wanda Faye (Lewis) Harjo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leslie Harjo, brother, Robert Sattefield, sister, Anita Jo Harjo, and nephew, Robert Bullet.
Sammy is survived by his son, Darren Harjo of Joplin, Missouri; son, Russell Harjo of Joplin, son, Paul Kelly and wife Erika Harjo of Okmulgee; daughter, Jennifer Kelly and husband Thomas Hotema of Okmulgee; daughter, Kari Harjo and husband Jess Locust of Okmulgee; son, Mark Harjo and wife Aubrey Frye of Okmulgee; 19 grandchildren; brother, Wesley Barnett of Tulsa; brother Robbin Harjo and wife Deanna of Tennessee; brother, Stanley Harjo of Bristow’ brother, Cheebon Proctor and wife Norma of Okmulgee; sister, Tamy Harjo of Okmulgee; sister, Amy Sue Harjo of Hanna; sister, Loretta Harjo and husband Randy of Okmulgee; sister-in-law, Cindy Harjo of Okmulgee, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Wake Services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021 at Weogufkee Indian Baptist Church in Hanna.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2021 at Weogufkee Indian Baptist Church with interment to follow at the Weogufkee Indian Baptist Church Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Integrity Funeral Service in Henryetta.
Pallbearers will be Vince Baccus, Scotty Harjo, Brandon Harjo, Cody Harjo, Brian Harjo, Adam Starr, and Grant Harjo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Allen Harjo, Solomon Morgan, Jess Locust, Thomas Hotema, Dennis Mitchell, Grant Proctor, Charles Kelly and Braden Cox.
