As the summer heat builds, many children head to lakes and pools for some relief.nadine
Nadine Graham, who provides swimming lessons in Henryetta, used the library’s summer reading program as an avenue to teach youngsters about safety around the water.
Graham told the children to let adults know they were going swimming whether it is in a pool or lake. If in a pool, she urged the youngsters to walk around and make sure nothing in the pool would possibly interfere with their enjoyment.

She brought several “pool noodles,” the colored foam floatation tubes and demonstrated how to use them properly. To float with a noodle, a child can drape their arms over it and let their feet dangle. For back floating, the noodle needs to be placed under the neck then put the arms over the noodle.
Monday was the final day for the summer reading program activities but, according to librarian Joann Hott, youngsters can still be a part of the drawing for prizes and magazine subscriptions until Aug. 6.
Locating all kinds of treasures was the program for the young participants last week.
Kathy Crosby said treasure can be found in attics, basements, boxes in closets and even yard sales.
In keeping with the Oceans of Possibilities theme, she presented the story of a Spanish ship sunk in 1804. The treasure that ship was carrying, some $500 million in silver, and gold, was located in 2007 and brought to Spain in 2012.
Other treasure-laden ships have been located bringing up even more millions of dollars worth of gold and silver.
As an activity, the youngsters broke out the paints and decorated a number of sea shells.
