The Jim Shoulders rodeo arena was surrounded by mules and donkeys Saturday and Sunday as the first Henryetta Mule and Donkey Days contests were held.
There were 30 mules and three donkeys competing in the various classes over the two days. Some of those came from as far away as Marysville California as well as Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and around Oklahoma.
“I was very pleased with the turnout,” said organizer Sandy Warshaw. “This is an event that I think will continue to grow.” She has already reserved the rodeo arena for next October in preparation for the 2023 competition.
The two-day event was kicked off with a parde down Main Street Saturday morning. Some 18 entries ranging from mule-drawn wagons to individuals riding their favorite animal were on hand to brighten the morning.
