Some thoughtless individual decided to give themselves a Christmas gift of the Marine Corps and Coast Guard emblems this year. The vandals pried the emblems from the plaque on the Doughboy statue at the library sometime in the past couple of days. The plaque and those emblems were placed on the monument in a special ceremony Nov. 11, 2018. The new plaque contains the names of fallen servicemen from World War I to the war on terrorism. It replaced a bronze plaque that contained the names of only World War 1 and World War Two servicemen. Bill Goodner, who led the drive for the new plaque, said replacement medallions would be ordered next week.
