Thomas Lloyd Porter died Dec. 29, 2022 in Tulsa at the age of 78. Tom was born Dec. 24, 1944 in Evening Star to the late Paul Eugene and Effie Mae (Robinson) Porter. He attended school at Evening Star and graduated from Liberty Morris School. He served his country in the United States Army for four years. Tom married Nancy Jaree Rainwater Aug. 30, 1968 at the Liberty Baptist Church. He worked at the Okmulgee Fire Department from 1969-1992, retiring as Fire Chief.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jimmy Nelson, sisters, Donna Woods and Paulette Cossey, brother, Ronnie Porter, sister-in-law, Kathy Porter and brother-in-law, Ken Hodge.
Survivors include his wife, Jaree Porter; children: John Porter and wife Jill, Jeanda Spurlock and husband Bradley, Jill Porter, Chuck Nelson and wife Karen and Gary Nelson; grandchildren: Brandon Nelson, Josh Nelson, Lauren Cantonwine, Megan Nelson, Kamie Crawford, KayLee Crawford, Brooke King, Madison King, Dalton Nelson, Josh Sexton, Dustin Crawford, Kaleb Porter, Konner Porter, Garrett Nelson, Shyann Nelson and Abby McFarlin; four great grandchildren; siblings: Arthur Porter and wife Marge, David Porter and wife Janice, Vicki Hensley and husband DeWayne, and Venecia Hodge; brothers-in-law, Bob Cossey and George Woods, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022 at the Twin Hills Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Treagesser officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dalton Nelson, Kaleb Porter, Konner Porter, Dustin Crawford, Gene Rice, Bob Hardridge, Kamie Crawford, KayLee Crawford, Josh Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Jeff Malone and Roger King. Honorary casket bearers will be Members and Retirees of the Okmulgee Fire Department.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris.
