John Farthing Seymour, a former Henryetta resident, died June 13, 2023 at his home in Lenexa, Kans., at the age of 91. The youngest son of William and Georgie (Farthing) Seymour, John was born Dec.22, 1931 in Henryetta,.

He was a 1950 graduate of Henryetta High School. During that time he played trombone in the band as well as basketball, football, and baseball, lettering in basketball. He was a member of the OK High School Honor Society for 4 years, attended Boys’ State, and served as President of the student body. College study was interrupted for a 3-year tour of duty in the Navy during the Korean War. After discharge, John completed his BBA at the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and was recruited by Hallmark.

During his career, John worked in manufacturing supervision, production control, inventory control, special projects management, and human resources for Imco Container, Vendo, and Puritan-Bennett. In 1975 he joined Litton Twin City Tool and began his career in Industrial Relations.
John retired from Standard Motor Products in Edwardsville, KS where he had been Personnel Manager for 10 years.
After moving to KC, John became active in the Big Brothers-Big Sisters organization and later the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was a member of the Lenexa Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He participated in both the Johnson County and Kansas City Human Resource Management groups.
John was a lifelong Presbyterian, an ordained Elder in the church, and frequent usher. Post retirement he served on the Johnson County Commission on Aging for 11 years including 3 years as president of the group. He drove for Meals on 

John was predeceased by his parents as well as his brothers Joseph Seymour (LA) and William Robert Seymour (CA). 

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Martha Purington Seymour; his daughter Carla Seymour Brown (Mike) of Truckee, CA; three step-children: Melanie Morgan (Greg) of Telluride, CO, Jay Michals (Martha) of Magnolia, TX, and Julie Schutzler (Jeff) of Prairie Village, KS. ; 15 grandchildren: Sarah L Brown; Austin, Morgan, Emily, Jack, Cody, Sophie, Brady, and Vivienne Michals; Ally, Sam, and Josie Morgan; and Madeline, Kimberly, and Victoria Schutzler.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday June 29, 2023 at Village Presbyterian Church 6641 Mission Rd. in Prairie Village; burial in Corinth Cemetery.
